2013년 9월 부터 10월 까지 아르코 창작센터에 머물 기회가 있었다.(듣기로는 구 미협 건물을 리모델링 하기 위해 비운 상태라고 하였다_현재의 이음이 있는 붉은 벽돌 건물) 이때 약간 낡은 하얀 색 방을 배정받게 되었다. 나는 이 방에 6x6cm의 검은색 종이 타일로 2달간 벽면을 채우는 작업을 진행하였고, 10월 말 오픈 스튜디오를 하였다.
약 2.5mx18m 정도 크기의 벽을 검은색 종이 타일로 덮은 다음 후에 일부 페이지를 뜯어 냈다. 오픈 스튜디오 당시에는 쇼파와 조명 1개만을 놔두고 전체적으로 조명을 껐다. 방 안에는 오르골 음악이 흐르고, 관객은 그 쇼파에 앉아 작가가 건네주는 차 한잔을 마셔야 하는 것이 감상의 방법이었다.
당시 대조적으로 마로니에 공원 재개관 행사를 가진 터라 바깥은 상당히 시끄러웠다. 그런 대조적인 분위기 속에서 작가와 관객은 어두운 방에서 침묵을 지켜야 했다.
이 작업은 당시 2013년 아르코 미술관에서 열린 ‘이병복, 3 막 3장’ 이라는 전시에 영향을 받았다. 마침 장소도 아르코 미술관 바로 옆인 것을 참조하여, ‘오종원 3층 5호’ 라는 이름으로 진행하였다.
From September to October 2013, I had the chance to stay at ARKO Creative Center. (I was told the building — the old Korean Fine Arts Association building, the red-brick one that now houses Eum — had been emptied for remodeling.) I was given a slightly worn white room. Over two months I covered its walls with 6 × 6 cm black paper tiles, and held an open studio at the end of October.
I covered a wall of about 2.5 × 18 m with the black paper tiles and later tore some of them off. For the open studio I left only a sofa and a single lamp and turned off all the other lights. Music-box music played in the room, and the way to view the work was to sit on the sofa and drink the cup of tea the artist handed you.
In contrast, the reopening event for Marronnier Park was going on at the time, so it was quite noisy outside. In that contrast, the artist and the visitor had to keep silent in the dark room.
The work was influenced by the exhibition Lee Byungbok: Act 3, Scene 3, held at ARKO Art Center in 2013. Since the room happened to be right next to ARKO Art Center, I named it 'O Jongwon, 3rd Floor, Room 5'.

이 인터뷰 영상은 아르코 창작센터에서 '모방의 방' 작업을 할 당시 스스로 인터뷰를 한 것이다. 미국의 유명 다큐멘터리인 아트21이란 영상을 패러디 하였다.
I interviewed myself for this video while working on The Room of Mimic at ARKO Creative Center. It parodies Art21, the well-known American documentary series.
